Cox's Bazar

The world's longest unbroken sea beach ๐ŸŒŠ

โš ๏ธ SAFETY WARNING: Due to security risks, crime, and proximity to the Myanmar border and refugee camps, government agencies (including the USA and Australia) advise travelers to reconsider travel to this region. Families are strongly urged to consult their own government's official travel advisory before considering a trip, as circumstances and risk assessments vary.

Cox's Bazar is the undisputed holiday capital of Bangladesh, famous for its unbroken 120-kilometre sandy beach. For families, the main attraction is the festive atmosphere along Laboni and Sugandha beaches, where children can find beach bikes, horses, and endless shallow waters for splashing. While the currents can be strong, staying in designated safe zones near lifeguards allows for fun in the surf. The town itself offers family-friendly attractions like Radiant Fish World, a well-maintained aquarium that introduces kids to the colourful marine life of the Bay of Bengal.

A drive south along the spectacular Marine Drive is a highlight of any trip. This road is sandwiched between the sea and the hills, leading to quieter spots like Inani Beach. Here, the sand is filled with coral stones, and the water is clearer, making it perfect for beachcombing and sunset photography. Along the way, a stop at Himchari National Park allows energetic families to climb the stairs up the hill for a sweeping view of the ocean horizon. During the rainy season, small waterfalls cascade down the green cliffs, adding to the charm.

Culturally, the region is influenced by its proximity to Myanmar. A short trip to the nearby town of Ramu reveals centuries-old Buddhist temples and monasteries, including a magnificent 100-foot sleeping Buddha statue that fascinates young explorers. Back in town, the culinary scene is dominated by fresh catches; families can pick their own fish or lobster at local markets and have it grilled to perfection at nearby restaurants.

While the main tourist zones are generally bustling and well-policed, it is vital to avoid traveling south towards Teknaf or near the refugee settlements. Stick to the established resorts and tourist beaches to ensure a safe and relaxing seaside vacation.
