Culturally, the Falklands feel like a slice of rural Britain transplanted to the southern hemisphere. English is the language, the currency is the Falkland Islands Pound (pegged to GBP), and red phone boxes dot the capital, Stanley. Families can visit the Historic Dockyard Museum to learn about maritime history and the 1982 conflict, or enjoy traditional fish and chips in a local pub. A distinctive local tradition is "smoko"-a mid-morning tea break with homemade cakes, often served at the hospitable farm settlements that host guests.

Inter-island travel is an adventure in itself, conducted by small FIGAS (Falkland Islands Government Air Service) Islander planes that land on grass strips.
