Just a few kilometers from Postojna stands Predjama Castle, arguably the most dramatic castle in Slovenia. Built directly into the mouth of a cave halfway up a 123-meter cliff, it sparks the imagination with tales of the robber baron Erazem (a local Robin Hood figure). The audio guides are well-designed to keep kids interested in the castle's defensive secrets. Further west lies Lipica, the original stud farm of the Lipizzaner horses.
